The Group's Inception

Since its first gathering in May of 1996, under the leadership of E. Thomas Marshburn, Jr., MD, the Retired Physicians Section has been a strong group of seasoned physicians who have made, and continue to make, a difference.  With R. Bertram Williams, Jr., MD at the helm from 2003 until his death in 2015, the retired physician community - and any others who wished to participate - maintained a vital and stable presence within the Medical Society.

The Retired Section Today

The programs are outstanding; the fellowship, unsurpassed!  The group hosts fascinating programs of interest to people of all ages, followed by a full meal, six times per year, during odd months.  Meetings are usually on last Wednesdays of the month and begin at 10:45 AM.  Physicians and physician widows, are encouraged to attend and invite their friends.  There are no dues.  Solicitation by speakers for their respective organizations is disallowed.  Each person pays $16.00 for his/her own meal.  John L. Powell, MD, current RPS Coordinator, welcomes ideas and program suggestions.  RPS is a senior physician organization in which all are welcome.
