OrthoWilmington is pleased to announce that Joanne (Anne) B. Allen, M.D., a member of its medical staff, has been elected as trustee for medicine on the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Board of Trustees. Dr. Allen is a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist who is also fellowship trained in sports medicine. “Being on the board is a huge honor because ACSM is the largest sports medicine organization of professionals in the world,” said Dr. Allen. “As a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, ACSM was instrumental in shaping my career.”


ACSM has more than 50,000 members and certified professionals worldwide, and it’s dedicated to advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine. “The greatest strength of ACSM is its members,” said Dr. Allen. “It has the unique ability to bring together the talents of a diverse group of professionals in the fields of sports medicine and sports science. The educational platform is complemented by worldwide contributions to exercise science and medicine, and its global promotion of healthier lifestyles.” “Dr. Allen is a gifted physician who has served in many capacities within orthopaedic medicine,” said OrthoWilmington Chief Executive Officer Stephen L. DeBiasi, FACHE, CMPE. “Her election to the ACSM board of trustees is well deserved and her expertise will certainly enhance the prestigious organization. “Dr. Allen’s service in ACSM has included membership on the Olympic/Paralympic Sports Medicine Committee, Medical Education Committee, the Women’s Strategic Health Initiative, the Musculoskeletal Advisory Committee and the Weekend Warrior project
